The National Ski Patrol states the following CPR Annual Requirement:
1) All active NSP members must hold a current “Professional-rescuer CPR certification” from an NSP-approved agency.
2) All active NSP members must demonstrate their CPR skills annually to a certified CPR instructor, regardless of the certifying agency’s requirements or the expiration date of the card. This is not intended to be part of the annual OEC Refresher requirements.
3) Currently approved CPR providers are the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, EMS Safety Services, Inc., Emergency Care and Safety Institute, National Safety Council, and Medic First Aid.
4) The patrol’s patrol representative shall, and acting as the ski area’s agent, certify that all NSP patrollers at the patrol representative’s ski area have completed their NSP CPR training requirements.
Mad River Patrol Specifics: Certifications are maintained independently and held record by our CPR lead Wally Taylor (CPR@madriverskipatrol.org). MRM also provides a 2-year CPR certification renewal free-of-cost through the American Health and Safety Institute (HSI). The renewal opportunity is in conjunction with the fall skills refresher prior to the ski season starting.
Active patrollers whose CPR BLS certification is known to be expiring are notified to complete an online HSI training session. MRM Patrollers needing to renew by September, 2025 are linked here > Renewal Listing. A link to the required training session is being sent to each person on the list. The training must be completed by Sept 14 if attending the instructor refresher and Sept 28 for all attending the general refresher.
In addition, all patrollers, whether renewing this year or not must demonstrate Adult and Infant CPR skills at the September 28, 2025 refresher. We are part of the Health and Safety Institute (HSI) for our CPR certifications.
